Pope Francis to meet the national directors for the pastoral care of migrants of the Catholic Bishops' Conferences in Europe on Friday morning of 22 September

Rome, September 21-23, 2017

The annual meeting of bishops and delegates in charge of the pastoral care of migrants of the Catholic Bishops' Conferences in Europe will take place this year in Rome, at the Bonus Pastor House, from 21 to 23 September, 2017.

The meeting will be characterized by two strong moments: the audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican, scheduled for the morning of Friday, September 22, and the dialogue with the officials of the "Migrants and Refugees" Section of the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting the Integral Human Development.

In Rome, after the presentation of the report on the work of Catholic Bishops' Conferences in the field of pastoral care of migrants by Gian Carlo Blangiardo, a professor at the University of Milano Bicocca, the national directors will discuss the current challenges to each country, concerning the reception and integration of migrants. The contribution of the persons responsible of the Holy See who will report on the priorities and projects on which the Vatican Dicastery is working will follow. This moment of dialogue will conclude with a discussion on how to co-ordinate the various actors of the pastoral care of migrants in Europe (Holy See, Catholic Bishops' Conferences, and International Church bodies).

The meeting will end on Saturday, September 23, with a visit to the St. Saba Center, run by the Centro Astalli Association (the Jesuit Service for Refugees in Italy), which hosts asylum seekers and international protection holders.

The meeting is behind closed-door. A statement will be distributed at the end of the work.

The press release is also available in English, French, German and Italian.
