The Bishops' Conference of Malta

Due to the territory of the country, the Maltese Episcopal Conference is, at present, made up of only two dioceses. The Island of Malta (population 400,000) has 70 parishes while the Island of Gozo (population 25,000) has 15 parishes.

Where possible the two Dioceses unite their forces through Interdiocesan Commissions that cater for the whole territory. These include:

  • the Commission for the Environment
  • the Liturgical Commission
  • the "Malta in Europe" Commission
  • the Commission for Education
  • the Catechetical Commission
  • the Catholic Cultural Heritage Commission
  • the Council for Vocations
  • the Response Team for the Investigation of Sexual Abuses
  • the Regional Tribunal (Second Instance)
  • the Cana Movement (Family Life)
