The CCEE returns to Prague, two years after the European Continental Assembly of the Synod in February 2023, this time for the Meeting of the Press Officers from all across Europe, scheduled for 3 to 5 June 2025, in collaboration with the Czech Bishops’ Conference.
In this Jubilee Year of Hope, the members in charge of communication within the Bishops’ Conferences of all the nations of the Continent will hold their XXXV Meeting, on the theme “Communicating Hope in today’s Europe”.
Today more than ever, Europe needs to make its own the communication of the Good News of the “hope that does not disappoint”, in a historical moment that risks being marked by desperation due to the bloody wars and inhumane violence that are spreading in many parts of the world.
The echoes of the late Pope Francis’ voice, together with the appeals for peace of the new Pope Leo XIV, tap out the rhythm of a harmonious and effective communication in Jesus’ style of the Gospel. What do their communication styles have to say to today’s journalist?
In the historical contexts of all centuries, Ecclesial communicators can repeat together with the psalmist: “their voice goes out through all the earth and their message to the ends of the world” (Ps 19:4).
Regarding today’s context, Prof. Daniel Arasa, Dean of the Faculty of Institutional Social Communication of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, will provide an introductory presentation, entitled “The Service of Ecclesial Communicators to the Church in the Present Context”.
Whereas the theme “Communication from Pope Francis to Pope Leo” will be presented by Dr. Alessandro Gisotti, Vice Director of the Editorial Department of the Dicastery for Communication.
The last session will address the topic: “The journalist and Vatican communication” with the contributions of two speakers who will alternate: Mr. Javier Martínez Brocal Ogáyar, Correspondent for the Spanish Newspaper ABC and Mr. Josef Pazderka, Editor-in-chief of Český rozhlas Plus, the Czech Radio station.
Enriched by various cultural side activities, the meeting’s programme will also include the Holy Mass in the Chapel of St. Wenceslas in the Prague Cathedral, presided over by H.E. Msgr. Josef Nuzík, President of the Czech Bishops’ Conference.
