“Europe and Christian Culture”

Meeting of the Bishops and National Directors

Gathered from all the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe, the bishops and national directors responsible for culture will meet in Turin from 29 to 30 October, for the meeting organized by the Section for Culture of the CCEE Commission for Evangelization and Culture.

The aim of the meeting, entitled “Europe and Christian Culture”, is to launch a reflection on what the cultural and moral contribution of Christianity consists of. Does it still make sense to talk about Christian heritage and Christian culture in Europe? What influence does the Christian perspective have on our European continent, also in light of the ideological currents that are challenging the Christian vision of the world, trying to confuse it, trivialize it or replace it in many ways?

H.E. Msgr. Jesús Sanz Montes, OFM, Archbishop of Oviedo and head of the CCEE Section for Culture, will give the introductory address on Culture as an Instrument for Evangelization. In the following session, entitled “Encounter and Clash between Christian Tradition and Culture in Europe”, Prof. Lluis Oviedo, OFM, professor at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome, will provide a speech.

The second day will be dedicated to the theme “The Face of Christ, Place of God’s Epiphany”, with three alternating speakers: Prof. Dr. Alfonso Sánchez Hermosilla, Director of EDICES (Equipo de Investigación del Centro Español de Sindonología), Dr. Adriana Acutis, Vice President of the Carlo Acutis Foundation, and H.E. Dr. Sigita Maslauskaité, Ambassador of Lithuania to the Holy See.

Participants in the seminar will also have the opportunity to listen to presentations from the various Bishops’ Conferences and participate in cultural activities.

The meeting will conclude with a visit to the Chapel of the Shroud and with Holy Mass presided over by H. Em. Card. Roberto REPOLE, Archbishop of Turin.

Further information and insights will be available via the CCEE social media channels.
