From 25 to 26 September 2025, the Meeting of the Bishops and National Directors for Catechesis, organised by the CCEE Section for Catechesis of the CCEE Commission for Evangelisation and Culture, will take place in Rome. The initiative aims to offer those responsible for catechesis within the various European Bishops’ Conferences a time for listening, discussion and shared reflection, on the occasion of the 2025 Jubilee.
The meeting will open on Thursday, 25 September, with an opening prayer led by Rev. Carl-Mario SULTANA, Secretary of the Section for Catechesis. Following this, the opening session will be held and moderated by Rev. Antonio AMMIRATI, CCEE General Secretary. Speaking will be H.E. Msgr. Gintaras GRUŠAS, Archbishop of Vilnius and CCEE President, and H.E. Msgr. Đuro HRANIĆ, Head of the Section for Catechesis.
In the afternoon, the first working session, coordinated by Rev. Carl-Mario Sultana, will highlight local situations through the presentation of reports from the various Bishops’ Conferences, with a particular focus on significant experiences and good practices in the formation of catechists.
Friday, 26 September, will begin with the celebration of Holy Mass at the Church of San Giovanni della Pigna, located near the CCEE headquarters. Subsequently, the second working session will focus on theme “Pilgrimage”. The first presentation will be given by H.E. Msgr. Franz-Peter TEBARTZ VAN ELST, Delegate of the Section for Fundamental Questions of Evangelisation in the World of the Dicastery for Evangelisation on the theme “Pilgrimage in the Jubilee: Historical and Theological Aspects”.
The presentations continue with the address from Sr. Rebecca NAZZARO, MDR, Director of the Pilgrimage Pastoral Office at the Vicariate of Rome – Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, who will explore the theme “Pilgrimage as a Field of Catechesis” examining how the journey to holy places can become a formative and spiritual experience for the faithful.
